ABOUT

Born in Hamburg (Germany), Sylvia Kimiko Krutz is instantly recognizable in today's music scene thanks to her particularly sensitive approach to sound, her tireless joy of exploration and her congenial approach to musical literature.

Sylvia Kimiko Krutz is a concert piano graduate of the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, where she also completed an additional master's degree in contemporary music with distinction. She received her first piano lessons at the age of five and was accepted to the Lübeck University of Music in 2009. Since 2011, she has studied with Mathilde Hoursiangou, Jean-Bernard Matter, Alexander Rößler and Roman Zaslavsky at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna and with Kenji Watanabe at the Tokyo University of Arts.

At a young age, she won prizes in the nationwide "Jugend musiziert" competition and was awarded with the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra Prize. She went on to win the 1st prize and the Schubert special prize at the International Franz Schubert Competition in Ruse and was awarded the Prize of Honour by the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. In 2024 she won the 1st prize in the first edition of the Sounding Visions Awards of the International Society for New Music.

She performed, among others, with Ensemble PHACE, Ensemble Kontrapunkte, Ensemble Wiener Collage, 2k+ Ensemble, the ORF Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra and has performed as a soloist with the Mödling Symphony Orchestra. She has also performed at festivals such as Wien Modern, ORF-musikprotokoll, Impuls Festival Graz, Festival 4020 and Leicht über Linz, and has given concerts at the Vienna Konzerthaus, Vienna Musikverein, Volkstheater Vienna, Brucknerhaus Linz, kHaus Kaserne Basel, Hamburg Laeiszhalle, City Concert Hall Novi Sad, Nagasaki Togitsu Canary Hall, Taito-ku Millenium Hall Tokyo, etc.

Sylvia Kimiko Krutz is a member of the Ensemble XXI. Jahrhundert and LIZARD - Linzer Ensemble für aktuelle Musik . She also performs internationally with the saxophonist Marko Dzomba as Duo Dzomba-Krutz.

She currently teaches at the Institute for New Music at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna.
